Inzaghi: 'Not a fair reflection of Lazio'

Simone Inzaghi maintains the 4-1 result was ‘not a fair reflection’ of Lazio’s performance against Atalanta. ‘I am sure we’ll have a good season.’

Papu Gomez scored twice, with Hans Hateboer and Robin Gosens also on target, while Felipe Caicedo got a mere consolation for the Aquile at the Stadio Olimpico.

“The lads played their game, we just failed to step up in the decisive moments of the match,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“We wasted a chance on 0-0 and another when we were two down, without forgetting the Ciro Immobile opportunity that hit the side-netting.

“The 4-1 result is not a fair reflection of the game, as Lazio had 10 attempts on goal and scored once, whereas Atalanta scored four out of five.”

Fans have been vocal in their complaints at the lack of genuine reinforcements, especially after qualifying for the Champions League.

The signings that are coming in, such as Andreas Pereira, Mohamed Fares and Wesley Hoedt, won’t complete their transfers until the final days of the window.

“I am sure we’ll have a good season. We knew that there were going to be some delays, there have been perhaps more than we expected at the end of last season, but the club has been working on the market.

“It would’ve helped if we didn’t have Atalanta and Inter as two of our first three games. We’ve got to push ourselves beyond the emergency situation we are in.”
