The Italian ministry of sports are reportedly contemplating changing the format of the Supercoppa Italiana, with the new version set to be similar to the new Supercopa de Espana.
Juventus will compete against Lazio for the trophy in a single final in Saudi Arabia on Sunday, while the Spanish equivalent will kick off in January with the participation of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Valencia.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Italian ministry are eager to re-negotiate terms after the 2019 final and a four-team format is a possible scenario.
The Italians are aware that there will be a lot more profit if they change their format, as the revenue from a single game is 7.5 million euros, whereas a final-four could bring in earnings of up to 30m euros.
