The right-back praised Francisco Conceição and spoke about his early days at the Italian club; He expressed his gratitude to Sérgio Conceição.
João Mário left FC Porto for Juventus this summer in a transfer valued at €12 million. Conversely, Alberto headed to Porto for €15 million, plus €1 in bonuses.
In an interview with Tuttosport, the right-back spoke about his first impressions at the Turin club and admitted to being "very happy."
"Coming to a great Italian club, with such a rich history, makes me feel proud. The first few days have been positive. The team and my teammates welcomed me immediately. I can only be happy. It's a very high-quality group, made up of good players. It will be a way to test myself and improve my game. I think I'm ready," he confessed.
"I was incredibly happy [with Juventus's offer]. Knowing that a big club like Juventus was interested in me made me incredibly happy. It was an offer almost impossible to refuse. It's a big step in my career, and I hope to live up to expectations. When they told me the deal was done and I was going to Juventus, I was delighted," he continued, speaking of the support he has received from Francisco Conceição and Tiago Djaló, with whom he had previously shared a dressing room at FC Porto.
"They give me a lot of help, and I'm trying to learn from others, interact with my teammates to better understand the dynamics. I'm integrating easily," he said, admitting to being inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo and João Cancelo. Both have played for Juventus.
"Since I was little, I've always been inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo. He's an example for the way he works, for the ambition that drives him to always strive for something more. I'm inspired by João Cancelo's way of playing. He's very attacking, even though he's a full-back. I have similar characteristics to him," he said.
Igor Tudor's tactical scheme won't be a problem for João Mário: "With Anselmi, at FC Porto, we adopted this formation: three center-backs and two wingers. I feel comfortable. Francisco Conceição? We missed a good pairing [at FC Porto]. He's explosive, good one-on-one, and can decide a game at any moment."
The Portuguese right-back singled out Yildiz and Locatelli when asked who had impressed him since arriving at his new club: "I didn't know everyone until I arrived here. Like Yildiz, I can also say Locatelli, with his excellent vision of the game."
Goals and... Sérgio Conceição
The goal is to fight for Serie A, never forgetting the UEFA Champions League.
"The league in Italy is much more competitive, with more teams fighting for the title than in Portugal. It will be a good opportunity to grow. We will try to do our best in the Champions League. We know there are high-quality teams, which are favorites. We simply want to play in all competitions and try to do our best," commented João Mário.
Finally, the former FC Porto player spoke about Sérgio Conceição, who led him to the top with the blue and whites.
