Jurgen Klopp response issued as ex-Liverpool boss linked with stunning return

Legendary former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp left Anfield last summer and has not coached since, but he has been linked with the post at Roma after Claudio Ranieri announced he was leaving his role

Jurgen Klopp's agent has denied claims he could take up his first managerial role since leaving Liverpool by taking charge of Roma, insisting the reports are "not true". The German left Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 season after nine years with the club, winning them the Premier League, Champions League and two domestic cups.

Klopp said he needed a break from the game after nearly a decade in a high-pressure role and has since taken up a job as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer and even said he might never manage another team again.

But that hasn't stopped the 57-year-old being linked with a number of roles, the latest of which being Serie A side Roma after it was announced manager Claudio Ranieri will be leaving his job and moving upstairs.

But news that Klopp would be replacing him was quickly shot down by his representative Marc Kosicke, who told WinWinAllSports: "Klopp coaching Roma? This news is not true."

Ranieri has stabilised Roma despite a difficult season and the team are currently fifth - and still have a chance of finishing fourth above Juventus ahead of the final Serie A game.

Klopp is still waiting for his next job after vowing to never coach another English club in the Premier League but said he was "running out of energy" to keep working at the highest level of the game.

Announcing his exit at the start of 2024, he said: "I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take. It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy.

"I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again. After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least I owe you is the truth – and that is the truth. That’s it, pretty much.

"If you ask me, ‘Will you ever work as a manager again?’ I would say now no. But I don’t know obviously how that will feel because I never had the situation. What I know definitely – I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool."

Klopp recently spoke about life after management and how he was transitioning to a more corporate role with Red Bull, which has already seen him travel to Japan and Brazil as part of his job.

"I work, but not what I did before," he said. "I'm not just lying around, although sometimes I am. I don't miss anything. Other top coaches won't be doing this forever either. The next generation is already out there. At some point, it will be up to them to start developing and changing football.

"There are already a lot of people from back then who are getting a taste of it. And more are coming because they're that age now. I'm really happy to watch them. And if I can help them with advice and support, I'm happy to do so. They probably think that after working with me for a while: If he can do it, we can do it too. It can't be that difficult."
