Juventus's disastrous week as they were dealt their first home Serie A defeat of the season after being outplayed by Como 1907, who emerged with a 2-0 victory.
Match Report
Out of form and missing both Bremer and Pierre Kalulu in defence, the hosts looked vulnerable throughout the first half and were perhaps lucky to only concede one goal. The Bianconeri actually had the first chance of the game when Kenan Yıldız forced a diving save from Jean Butez, but they fell behind on 12 minutes. Weston McKennie gifted possession to Como in his own half and was duly punished when Mërgim Vojvoda cut inside and shot towards the near post, but Michele Di Gregorio should’ve done a lot better as he could only palm the ball into the corner of the net. That goal sparked unease at the Allianz Stadium, as the visitors smothered Juventus with an energetic press.
Midway through the half, Juve did manage to exploit the high line as Lloyd Kelly played a long ball through to Loïs Openda, but Butez read his attempted lob and stood tall to deny the Belgian striker. The visitors came close to adding a second just before HT, with the hosts again proving to be architects of their own downfall. Teun Koopmeiners smashed the ball back into his own box, forcing Di Gregorio into a headed clearance, but they were bailed out as Lucas Da Cunha’s half volley clipped the bar.
Como continued to look the more threatening side after the break, and they duly doubled their lead on the hour mark after a surgical counterattack. The home side were caught with players forward from a corner and had no answer as Da Cunha was released on the right flank, but instead of shooting, he had the vision to pick out Maxence Caqueret for the tap-in. Luciano Spalletti tried to respond with a double-substitution to spark some life into his side, but it was clearly not going to be their day after Teun Koopmeiners’ free kick smacked the outside of the post.
The win sees Como break a three-game winless streak in the league, and despite remaining in sixth, they move within one point of Juventus, who sit in fifth after back-to-back league defeats.
