Juventus are considering sacking manager Massimiliano Allegri after a season to forget in Turin, according to reports.
The Old Lady have had a torrid 2022-23 campaign that has seen them in spitting distance of silverware and Champions League football, before toppling not once, but twice, down the ranks.
On Monday, the Serie A outfit was handed its second points deduction of the season after the initial decision was reinstated by the Italian Federal Court of Appeal.
Juventus initially had 15 points deducted in January further to an investigation into their transfer dealings, but the decision was overturned on appeal in April.
With the loss of ten points now confirmed, Juventus have slid from second to seventh in the table, only a point behind Jose Mourinho's Roma but currently out of contention for European football.
To add insult to injury, hours after the decision was announced Allegri's side suffered a shock 4-1 defeat to Empoli, deepening their misery.
As per GOAL, the dramatic conclusion to a dizzying season has the hierarchy questioning whether the head coach's second tenure has been a success.
The 55-year-old's first spell in Turin spanned five years and at times felt like an exercise in achieving without limits.
Allegri held the highest win percentage – 70.48 per cent – of any Juventus manager in history and won five consecutive Serie A titles with the northern Italian behemoths, as well as four consecutive Coppa Italia trophies.
The manager left the club in 2019 but returned just two years later with entirely different results.
The former AC Milan manager has failed to win a trophy during his second stint at the helm of the storied club, and will go without again at the end of this season after Juve was knocked out of the Europa League in the semi-finals by tournament big beasts Sevilla.
Additionally, his second term has been beset with problems, including division in the dressing room, and frustration over the side's playing style.
Stars such as Federico Chiesa, Dusan Vlahovic, and Angel Di Maria are all said to be disenchanted under their former manager.
Disquiet in Turin has seen speculation mount that Vlahovic is set to move to the Premier League, but director Francesco Calvo ruled out the question of whether the Serbian forward was for sale, adding: 'We are satisfied with the effort he puts in, although everyone in life can do better.'
Napoli's sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is set to move north to join Juve at the season's end and a change at the top could see a shake-up of the management team too.
The boss cut a beleagured figure after defeat at Empoli on Monday evening, saying that he was 'tired' by the current turmoil on and off the pitch.
'I think it's human even if it seems that everything rolls off my back,' Allegri told reporters.
'In Sevilla, we played a good game, the team firmly thought we could reach the [Europa League] final and in Empoli, with what we got left inside, there was this ruling.
'I don't know if it's right or wrong, but we arrived at the stadium with 69 points and after the warm-up, we had 59.
'I tried to tell the team that we still had a chance before the game with Milan, even if I was told that it may not finish here, there could be another trial, I don't know.
'I just hope this will end soon, respecting those who are working, then those in charge have to judge, but it hasn't been easy for the team.'
But there are reasons to suggest prising the manager loose could be a challenging task for the club's hierarchy.
Allegri still has two years of his deal with the club, and as such, the manager and his £7million salary could prove too expensive to get rid of.
Juventus will hope to wrestle their hopes of competing on the European stage next season back under control in their final two matches of the season.
The Old Lady will play top-six rivals AC Milan on Sunday before meeting Udinese on the last day of their campaign.
