Klopp insists there is 'no chance' Milner will retire as he hits 800 appearances

James Milner has been playing at the highest level for nearly two decades, since making his senior debut for Leeds United against West Ham on November 10, 2002, when he was 16 years and 309 days old.

Now aged 36, the English midfielder is still going strong and made the 800th appearance of his club career away at Inter on Wednesday night.

He has made six appearances for Swindon Town, 54 for Leeds United, 126 for Aston Villa, 136 for Newcastle United and 275 for Liverpool.

Klopp plays down chances of Milner retiring

Jurgen Klopp expects Milner to add many more appearances to that Liverpool tally, having this week played down the chances of him retiring.

"There is no chance he will retire next year, as he is desperate to play on and I understand that," Klopp said this week.

"Life after football is much longer than your career so it makes sense to extend playing as long as you can, it is better than other things.

"Milner will be fine after his career as well but he obviously loves what he is doing and he will play football next year, definitely."

Milner's titles so far

Milner has already won so much in the game, with one Premier League, one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup and one Club World Cup with Liverpool, in addition to the two Premier League titles he won at Manchester City and the one FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield he won at the Etihad.

"I'm Milner's No1 fan," his former Manchester City coach Manuel Pellegrini said of him in an interview with The Guardian.

"Find me a more complete English player. There are players who're better technically, yes. Quicker players, yes. Players who head better, yes. But show me one who does all the things Milner does well. There isn't one."
