Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri is pushing for the re-signing of former club captain Lorenzo Insigne.
The 34 year-old midfielder is back home in Italy after leaving Toronto FC at the end of the last MLS season.
Insigne is eager to play on and Sarri wants to bring him back to Lazio, says Il Messaggero.
However, sporting director Angelo Fabiani would prefer to focus on younger players, though a limited transfer budget saw Lazio make no significant additions over the summer.
A move for Insigne, despite his free agency status, will have to wait until January, but Sarri remains eager to add the experienced playmaker to his squad - even if it won't happen until the New Year.
