Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson says he had a "long think" about his future amid interest from Rangers over the summer, admitting he still has aspirations of a move to Ibrox.
The 27-year-old was subject to transfer speculation after playing with Scotland in the World Cup, but he opted to remain in Italy and has played every minute and captained Bologna in every Serie A game so far, after not featuring as regularly last season.
"I was a little bit unsure but nothing was ever really that close to be honest," he said ahead of Scotland's Nations League match with Switzerland.
"I had a long think about my future and what that was going to look like and, in the end, it was still at Bologna. I've loved every moment that I've had there, so it was about continuing that journey and see where it takes me."
Ferguson, who has two years remaining on his current contract, admitted a move to Ibrox is "always in the back of my mind".
He added: "It's no secret I grew up a [Rangers] fan. That's absolutely no secret. My family is involved in the club, and it was an aspiration of mine, a dream of mine as a kid and that's not changed.
"But I don't want to speak about that while I'm still a player at Bologna. I've got too much respect for them, but in the future you never know.
"It might happen, it might not, but it's always been something in the back of my mind."
