Liverpool: Thiago Alcantara is BACK in training before Champions League trip to Napoli on Wednesday

Thiago has been pictured back in Liverpool training, handing manager Jurgen Klopp massive lift ahead of their Champions League opener on Wednesday.

The Reds travel to Napoli to face Luciano Spalletti's side at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in their first European group-stage game this season.

And with captain and influential midfielder Jordan Henderson out until October with an injury, the return of Thiago comes as a massive boost to the Premier League side.

Spanish midfielder Thiago was taken off after 50 minutes of Liverpool's league opener against Fulham on August 6 and has not played a single minute since.

Liverpool are going through somewhat of an injury crisis at the moment, especially in midfield.

Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabio Carvalho are all out, as are goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, defenders Ibrahima Konate and Calvin Ramsay, while Curtis Jones has not played a single minute since the Community Shield.

There are no guarantees Thiago will start in Naples, but if he is available, it strengthens Klopp's options in the middle of the park.

In the last few matches, teenager Harvey Elliott and veteran James Milner, 36, have been forced to fill in.

Napoli have won the only two Champions League ties between the sides in Italy, but Liverpool - last campaign's losing finalists - are among the favourites for the tournament.
