AC Milan are yet to contact Liverpool in regards to a move for Darwin Nunez in the January transfer window.
Nunez, 25, has endured an underwhelming campaign at Anfield so far in 2024-25, scoring just four goals in 23 games across all competitions.
The Uruguayan joined the Reds for a fee rising to £85million in the summer of 2022, but his time on Merseyside has been beset by struggles in front of goal.
Despite his ability to produce remarkable moments, Nunez has netted 37 times in 119 appearances, with his performances characterised by inconsistency and a lack of clinical finishing.
Arne Slot has preferred to use Luis Diaz or Diogo Jota in a central striking role this season, raising questions about Nunez's future at the club, although he remains popular among supporters.
And reports in Italy earlier this week had claimed AC Milan were plotting a move for the striker.
The move would have initially been on a six-month loan, with a £41.5m obligation to buy in the summer.
However, Mail Sport understands that Liverpool have heard nothing from the Italian giants in regards to the forward.
Although it is still extremely early in the January transfer window and things can change, it is unlikely that Liverpool would permit Nunez a move away without having a replacement lined up.
This is particularly pertinent given they are well-placed in all four competitions they are in, with the Reds likely to face a hectic fixture schedule during the second half of the campaign.
Liverpool currently sit top of both the Premier League and Champions League - where they have already qualified automatically for the last-16 stage.
They also face Tottenham in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final next week and entertain League Two side Accrington Stanley in the third round of the FA Cup this month.
Slot's side return to action on Sunday when they host struggling Manchester United, where Nunez will be keen to net his third Premier League goal of the season.
Meanwhile, AC Milan are eighth in Serie A and appointed former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao this week after sacking Paulo Fonseca.

we don't want to regret it's better if it is a case we release Jota than Nun'ez
Someone who's always injured has more goals than someone who's always playing and you want us to sell Jota rather 👀👀👀....No bro.
