Man United's bid to sign Mathys Tel stalls with TWO loan bids rejected by Bayern

Manchester United's bid to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich is at a standstill after they had two offers rejected today.

Arsenal remain the background to sign the France international who had rejected Tottenham on Friday.

United were given encouragement that the 19-year old wanted to join them but they have been unable to find a solution with Bayern over a loan deal and payment terms and a resolution is now considered 'unlikely'.

United maintain an interest in Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku but that is considered difficult also at this stage and other options are being explored.

United, who have agreed to allow Marcus Rashford to join Aston Villa on loan with a £40m option to buy, had earlier ruled out a proposed move for Villa's Leon Bailey.

Tel has been at the heart of one of the most notable sagas of the January transfer window, with a host of Premier League sides among the clubs to have made enquiries over the £50million Frenchman.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was reportedly in Bavaria to 'accelerate talks' for the France international, keen to push forward as other Premier League outfits breathed down their necks.

The decision comes after Spurs' technical director Johan Lange was understood to have travelled to Munich on Wednesday to watch Tel play for Bayern in their Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava, where he opened negotiations.

Playing time has been critical for Tel in deciding his next employer, with his decision to call it quits at Bayern coming after falling out of favour under manager Vincent Kompany.

United appear to be able to offer this, anticipating the imminent departures of Rashford and potentially Alejandro Garnacho before tomorrow's deadline.

Firepower up front also remains a problem for Ruben Amorim, who has been lumbered with two relics of the Erik ten Hag regime during his early stint at Old Trafford.

Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund were both left on the bench for United's 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday - which saw Amorim opt to operate Kobbie Mainoo as a false nine.

If Tel was to sign, it would likely send the forward pair further down the pecking order - but with negotiations stalling between United and Bayern, a transfer now looks increasingly unlikely.

Tel has scored 16 goals in his first 83 appearances for the Bundesliga giants but has spent a lot of time on the bench.
