Man Utd are kicking discrimination out of football with their new campaign

Manchester United have reiterated their commitment to 'champion equality, diversity and inclusion' as football continues to be plagued by ongoing issues with discrimination.

Recent high-profile incidents of racism, including two involving Arsenal and Chelsea fans in the Europa League on Thursday night, have again highlighted the problems facing the game.

An Arsenal supporter was caught on camera racially abusing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly while three Chelsea fans were denied entry to their game at Slavia Prague after they were involved in a social media video which included an abusive chant about Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Other occurrences, including monkey chants being aimed at England players during a Euro 2020 qualifier away to Montenegro, have forced those within the game to re-evaluate their approach in tackling racism.

On Friday night United used their 'All Red All Equal' campaign, which was launched in 2016, to promise to 'challenge discrimination throughout the game' and reaffirm their abhorrence at recent incidents.

A post from the club's Instagram account read: 'Football is going through a time where we're still seeing discrimination throughout the game.

'All Red All Equal is Manchester United's promise to champion equality, diversity and inclusion.

'To celebrate individualism. Accepting people for who they are. Embracing differences that make the world a more exciting place.

'There is no greater goal than a more equal world. All Red All Equal.'

United used pictures of first team stars Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, as well as members of their women's team, pretending to block out discriminatory statements, with some written on walls behind them with parts of the phrases blocked out in red.

The club then posted a video on Instagram of the likes of Juan Mata, Diogo Dalot and Lingard condemning some outrageous comments that they have received during their careers.

Arsenal have launched an investigation after a video emerged online where a supporter can be heard racially abusing Koulibaly.

The Gunners won their Europa League quarter-final first leg meeting 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium but another incident of racism overshadowed the result.

In a Snapchat video shot during the game, the culprit can be heard using the 'n-word' to refer to Koulibaly - with the word also written across the screen for part of the 15-second recording.

It comes four months after Koulibaly, who is a transfer target for Manchester United and valued at £75m, was subjected to monkey chants by Inter Milan supporters.

Meanwhile, a video emerged online before Chelsea's tie against Slavia Prague showing a group of six men in a bar singing that Salah, who is a devout Muslim, was 'a bomber'.

Chelsea's security team studied the footage and three men were denied entry to the Eden Stadium. The Stamford Bridge club are furious about the latest despicable incident to pockmark their season and have vowed to issues bans to those identified.

Chelsea's Europa League campaign has been dogged by the misconduct of their travelling supporters.

When the club played against Vidi in Budapest, Chelsea publicly condemned their supporters and urged fans to 'summon brainpower' after they sang an alleged anti-Semitic chant that disparagingly referred to Tottenham followers as 'Yids'.
