Manchester United's striker search continues and they have been offered a number of veteran free agents with Jamie Vardy put to Ruben Amorim as he scours the market

Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign three free agents during their striker search - with Jamie Vardy among the names put to them.

The Red Devils are in the market for more firepower and have a No.9 on their radar in the coming weeks. Currently their transfer pursuits have centred around deeper forwards with Matheus Cunha in the building and Bryan Mbeumo on their radar.

Ruben Amorim also wants a central striker to arrive this summer and several of their targets could head elsewhere. Viktor Gyokeres looks bound for Arsenal if he does come to the Premier League and Liam Delap has already chosen Chelsea over Manchester whilst Victor Osimhen has a number of options.

It leavers the club on the lookout and, should they continue to miss out on personnel, they may scour the free agent market. Vardy recently left Leicester after more than a decade of success and is among those who have been put to the Manchester outfit, reports the Athletic.

Several other proven Premier League goalscorers are also available for nothing. Age is not on their side but they could still do a job with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Callum Wilson suggested to the Red Devils.

Calvert-Lewin has opted for pastures new with his Everton contract expiring this summer. Newcastle meanwhile opted against extended Wilson's deal and he is set to look for a new club. Both have previously been capped by England.

It is though that Amorim and co would only advance on these, if at all, towards the end of the window if they do not get any of their top targets. The issue for United in recent summers has been their poor identification of talent with their current crop of forwards not cutting it.

Rasmus Hojlund was signed from Atalanta two years ago with a long-term view being taken, but the Dane has not developed as they hoped and now looks bereft of confidence. A move back to Italy is mooted. 12 months on and Joshua Zirkzee was captured, but he too has struggled for goals.

It leaves United desperately looking for a spark in attack - less term they scored 44 times in the Premier League, nearly half of Liverpool's total. Their lack of European football could prove an issue with their recruitment and in the past, albeit with a previous hierarchy, they have panicked and bought in players late in the market.
