The former Roma junior missed out on a move back to the Giallorossi last summer.
La Gazzetta dello Sport says United had scouts posted to watch Frattesi last week for Sassuolo's 5-0 win against Salernitana.
Frattesi has a deal with Sassuolo to 2026.
The four-cap Italy international is also on the radar of major Serie A clubs.
