Manchester United 'target shock swoop for 36-year-old Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko'

Manchester United are eyeing a swoop for Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko to add firepower to their squad.

The 36-year-old Bosnian international is out of contract in the summer and Inter have not yet opened up discussions about an extension.

United are short in attack following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November with boss Erik ten Hag only having Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to lead the line.

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of names to fill the void left by Ronaldo with Marcus Thuram, Vincent Aboubakar, Joao Felix and Wout Weghorst all mentioned as possible signings.

According to Calcio Mercato, Dzeko has emerged as a possibility in what would represent a stunning return to Manchester after a five-year spell at neighbours City where he won two Premier League titles.

Despite entering the twilight of his career, Dzeko hasn't lost his eye for goal, netting seven goals in 17 Serie A appearances this season.

He has also been prolific in the Champions League, registering three goals in the group stage.

Any swoop for Dzeko would present Ten Hag with a natural target man that would enable the likes of Martial to take up a wider role.

But Real Madrid are also believed to be interested in the Bosnian and are searching for another option to Karim Benzema.

Dzeko's record in the Premier League stands at 72 goals in 189 appearances for City, registering 38 assists.
