Marcelo and Gareth Bale connected to devastating effect in Real Madrid's 3-1 win over Kashima Antlers on Wednesday.
Despite being singled out for criticism during difficult times this season for Real Madrid, the Welsh forward and the Brazilian full-back were instrumental in the team's semifinal victory.
After riding their luck early on, Madrid went into the break 1-0 up after Marcelo set up Bale for a perfectly timed opener on 43 minutes.
Soon after the restart, the pair linked up again for the goal that gave Madrid breathing space.
Both playing down the left flank, Marcelo and Bale connected effortlessly, in the manner many expected they would do when in close proximity.
Two minutes later, Bale clinched his hat-trick, soon before manager Santiago Solari took the Welshman off for a much deserved rest ahead of the final.
Bale stepped up at a vital time for Madrid, and much like for his spectacular overhead kick against Liverpool in the Champions League final earlier this year, Marcelo was the provider.
