Massimiliano Allegri is the leading candidate to takeover from Antonio Conte at Inter Milan if the manger decides to leave, according to reports.

Inter were defeated 3-2 by Sevilla in the Europa League final on Friday and after the game the Italian boss admitted he will take some time to think about his future ahead of next season.

Reports in Italy from Sky Sport Italia, claim former Juventus manager Allegri is the 'hot favourite' to take the reins at the San Siro if Conte does decide to part ways with the Serie A side.

Conte told the media on Friday: 'It's only right that we analyse the entire season, look at everything in a very calm way, and try to plan the future of Inter, whether it's with or without me.

'It has been difficult and we'll figure things out. It has been wonderful for me to be the coach of Inter, I thank the owners who allowed me to go through this great experience.

'If I can say one thing: it was worth it and I will always thank those who gave me the opportunity to have this experience.

'If some situations end up affecting my family, that is no longer enough for me. Everything has its limits, I have to see where my limits are.

'We’ll clarify the situation, without rancour, because I will always be grateful for having the chance to spent a great year at Inter, but on the other it was also very tough.'

Conte led Inter to second place in Serie A, finishing one point behind champions Juventus - who sacked Maurizio Sarri after they were dumped out of the Champions League by Lyon in the last-16.

Allegri was one of the contenders to takeover from Sarri before the job was given to club legend Andrea Pirlo.

The 53-year-old has been out of work since leaving Juve last summer. The manager won 11 trophies in five years but lost two Champions League finals.
