It seems incredible, but the goal that Leo Messi scored on Sunday against Osasuna is very similar to one that Diego Maradona scored for Newell's Old Boys back in 1993.
As if that coincidence wasn't enough in this week of all weeks, Messi celebrated his strike by removing his Barcelona jersey to reveal Maradona's Newell's shirt. You could not have scripted it better.
Maradona scored the goal in question in a friendly victory over Emelec on October 7, 1993 on his return to Argentine football.
Messi, 27 years later and just days after Maradona's passing, could not have paid better tribute to the football legend.
Maradona scored his goal with a shot across goal from the edge of the box and right of centre, while Messi went in the other direction, finding the other top corner from the left-hand-side, but the similarity in style is there to see.
Messi is on record as previously having confirmed he witnessed Maradona's goal for Newell's live.

The referee who booked Lionel Messi after taking off his t-shirt to pay tribute to Diego Maradona: "When I reached my back pocket to take out the yellow card my heart was painful. I think FIFA should make exceptions with this rule. When someone does it to support society like Black Lives Matter or paying tribute to a legend, the player should be forgiven. I was just doing my job. But I must admit I booked him with a heavy heart. Maradona was one of the greatest players ever and hopefully La Liga or FIFA will remove the yellow card." Do you agree? Yes or No?
