AC Milan could enter the race to sign Napoli duo Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon, according to a report.
We reported last month that Paolo Maldini and Zvonomir Boban are on the look out for players of proven quality and experience to help a struggling young squad devoid of leadership.
Napoli meanwhile are suffering somewhat of an internal crisis after president Aurelio De Laurentiis' decision to send the squad into 'ritiro' was mutinied against by the squad.
Naples-based newspaper il Mattino (via Calciomercato.com) claimed that there will be consequences, and Rai Sport's mercato expert Ciro Venerato even told CalcioNapoli24 that Milan want to sign Callejon and Mertens from the Partenopei on free transfers.
Now, a report from MilanNews.it confirms that Milan could decide to enter into a possible race that involves several teams – Inter being one of them – for Mertens and Callejon.
Both have contracts which expire in June, and could therefore arrive on free transfers, while the report also cites La Gazzetta dello Sport in claiming that De Laurentiis is not interested in discussing renewals. Instead, the pair could leave in January, for the right offers.
Mertens, 32, has 88 goals in 217 Serie A appearances, while Callejon – also 32 – has netted 61 goals and 53 assists in 235 league games.
