Lorenzo Insigne has paid a lasting tribute to Diego Maradona by getting a tattoo of the late Argentina icon on his left leg.

The Napoli forward, along with the rest of the club, has been deeply affected by the death of the legend, with the Serie A outfit renaming their stadium after him.

Insigne paid his own tribute during the league clash with Roma, celebrating with a Napoli top with the name Maradona on the back in his famous No 10.

And now he has added to that homage with a more personal touch, getting a huge portrait of the former world star inked on his leg.

In an Instagram post from Valentino Tattoo Studio, the artist could be seen adding the finishing touches on to the image, with Insigne giving the camera the thumbs up.

The 29-year-old Italy international had posted his own note to mark the death of Maradona last month.

Taking to social media, he wrote: 'The greatest of all time, I was lucky enough to meet you.

'From the first day you arrived in our beloved Naples, you became a Neapolitan doc. You gave everything for your people, you defended this land, you loved it. You gave us joy, smiles, trophies, love.

'I grew up hearing my family’s stories about your exploits, seeing and reviewing your endless games.

'You were the greatest player in history, you were Our Diego. I was lucky enough to meet you, talk to you, meet you, and I don’t deny that my legs were shaking.

'For me you have always had beautiful words, words of comfort that I can never forget and that I will keep forever inside me. As a fan, as a Neapolitan, as a footballer: Thanks for everything D10S. We’ll always love you.'
