Napoli 'freeze wages of Koulibaly, Allan, Insigne, Mertens & Callejon for Oct'

President Aurelio De Laurentiis is reportedly freezing Napoli salaries, aiming to dock 25 per cent, and sell star names including Kalidou Koulibaly following the ‘mutiny.’

The club has been in a civil war for several weeks, ever since the squad refused orders to go back into a training retreat following the Champions League draw with RB Salzburg on November 5.

A press silence has been imposed, so the players and coach Carlo Ancelotti have been barred from giving their side of the story.

President De Laurentiis promised to come down hard on the team and multiple reports today suggest he’s not holding back.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, La Repubblica, Tuttosport and more, Napoli have frozen the payment of their wages for October.

This is a precursor to his legal bid to dock them up to 25 per cent of their salary as punishment.

The players could sue the club in response and are believed to be seeking legal advice on what to do next.

On top of that, the Gazzetta dello Sport also suggest that De Laurentiis is determined to purge the squad of those responsible for the rebellion.

They would be Kalidou Koulibaly, Allan, Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon.

Some of those will be sold over the summer, but Mertens and Callejon have contracts running down in June 2020, so would need to leave in January.

According to Tuttosport, even coach Carlo Ancelotti isn’t safe and Gennaro Gattuso is being eyed as a potential caretaker manager to the end of the season.
