Newcastle United defeated Fiorentina 2-0 on a damp afternoon at St James' Park to record their fourth win of pre-season.

The Tyneside club lay host to the inaugural Sela Cup this year with Villareal and Nice drawing 1-1 in the other game earlier today.

Goals from Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak proved to be the decider as Newcastle comfortably turned over their Italian opposition.

Almiron got the opener at the quarter-way mark as he met a well-placed pass from Isak to beat Michele Cerofolini in the Fiorentina net.

Before the Swede got on the scoresheet himself in the second half with a powerful header at the near post from Kieran Trippier's corner.

Newcastle will now face Villareal on Sunday at 4pm as they bid to lift the four-team pre-season trophy.

After which, they kick off their Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Aston Villa on August 12.

Eddie Howe's men will be hoping for similar successes to last season when they finished inside the Premier League's top four for the first time in ten years.
