After signing Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, Newcastle United are determined to further strengthen their squad with the acquisition of Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata.
The Magpies made an initial 30 million euro bid for the Colombia international, but La Dea were not impressed and turned down the Premier League side's offer.
According to Calciomercato, Newcastle are now thinking about raising their bid in order to meet Atalanta's demands, as the Serie A side are asking for at least 40 million euros to part ways with their star striker.
Newcastle are offering Zapata a contract worth two million euros per year, which could rise to 6.5m euros with add-ons, while Atalanta would be willing to sell the 30-year-old should the Magpies meet their demands.
Zapata replacement
Meanwhile, Atalanta have set sights on Stuttgart's Sasa Kalajdzic and Torino's Andrea Belotti as potential replacements in the event Zapata leaves in January.
