Inter Milan have officially announced the signing of Benjamin Pavard (27) from Bayern Munich. The France international landed yesterday in Lombardy to seal his move with the 2023 Champions League runners-up.

Pavard was looking to embark for a new challenge after entering his final year of contract with the Bavarian giants. Bayern and Inter Milan reached an agreement over a €32m transfer fee for the versatile defender, including €2m in performance-related add-ons.

“We respect his desire for a new challenge and have therefore agreed on the move to Inter Milan. We wish him all the best and much success in the Italian Serie A for his future“, said Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. Manchester United were also in the race to sign Pavard in the event that Harry Maguire leaves Old Trafford – the England international looks set to stay with Erik ten Hag’s side.

Pavard has signed a five-year deal with Inter Milan, tying him to the Nerazzurri until 2028. He will link up in Simone Inzaghi’s side with France international teammate Marcus Thuram. The 2018 World Cup winner with France eventually chose to join Inter as he was given guarantees he would be used as a centre-back – his favourite position on the pitch – in Inzaghi’s three-man defence. The 2020 Champions League winner with Bayern is expected to be called up by Didier Deschamps for the upcoming international break.
