Real Madrid will officially have a women's team after agreeing to buy recently promoted CD Tacon, a decision that was ratified by the club's Board of Directors on Tuesday afternoon, but Real Madrid's name will not be in LaLiga Iberdrola next season.
Instead, they will officially have a women's team from July 1, 2020. During the 2019/20 campaign, CD Tacon will train and play their games at Valdebebas, Los Blancos' training ground, while they transition into becoming Real Madrid from the following season.
President Florentino Perez put the proposal forward and, although there were some who advocated starting from scratch, the idea behind having a side in LaLiga Iberdrola - the women's top flight in Spain - will finally come to fruition from next summer.
Having received approval from the Board of Directors, Los Blancos will now need the go ahead from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
"In all cases, mergers and takeovers will require the agreement, in this regard, of their respective General Assemblies, and it may only be formalised at the end of a season, to take effect from the following [campaign]," reads point six of the General Rules of the RFEF to make the takeover effective.
In Madrid, they are already working on gaining entry to LaLiga Iberdrola in an appropriate manner for the 2019/20 campaign, without any setbacks for a proposal that, thus far, has received a good response amongst its members and the football world in general.
