Stephen Dobbie may be nearing his 36th birthday but the Scottish striker is the unlikely holder of the title of Europe's most prolific goalscorer this season.

The Queen of the South veteran has scored 21 goals in 13 games in all competitions this season, including three hat-tricks.

That total gives Dobbie a strike rate of 1.62 goals per game, better than any other player across the top tiers of Europe's 55 UEFA countries.

The likes of Kylian Mbappe (1.25) and Robert Lewandowski (1.14) are also operating at more than a goal a game while Lionel Messi (1) and Cristiano Ronaldo (0.43) are some way behind Dobbie.

Dobbie, who has scored 14 goals in his last eight matches, has only failed to find the net in three of his team's 13 outings.

Detractors will point to the Scottish Premiership being an easier league but Ayr United's Lawrence Shankland is the only other player with a strike rate of more than a goal a game, scoring 15 times in 13 games.

Dobbie, who has had spells at Rangers, Swansea, Crystal Palace and Brighton has found the net 74 times in 97 games since rejoining Queen of the South in 2016.
