Claudio Ranieri is closing in on his 20th job in football management after an approach from struggling Sampdoria.

After six defeats from their opening seven Serie A games, Eusebio Di Francesco was sacked earlier this week.

And having replaced him at Roma earlier this year, Ranieri looks set to do once again, according to reports in Italy.

Ranieri had a positive meeting with the club on Wednesday night, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Sky Sport Italia and TMW.

He was not first choice, with Serie A's bottom club having been turned down by Stefano Pioli and Gennaro Gattuso.

Ranieri has reportedly been offered a contract to the end of the season worth £885,000.

He is in line for an automatic renewal if the club avoids relegation from the top-flight.
