Jamie Redknapp insisted Marcus Rashford's current form at Manchester United is heartbreaking to watch.
After enjoying the most prolific campaign of his career to date last season, the 26-year-old has struggled to reach the same levels this term.
Rashford's inconsistencies on the pitch have been further blighted by issues away from football, including an incident involving a missed training session stemming from a night drinking in Belfast in the build up to an FA Cup clash in January.
Despite netting in his previous two Premier League appearances, Rashford produced a listless display in United's draw with Brentford on Saturday, registering just a single shot on goal before being replaced by Mason Mount.
At half-time in that game Redknapp criticised Rashford for lacking effort, and speaking following the result the pundit questioned why it appears he is not reaching his potential.
'Marcus Rashford is a player with so much talent,' Redknapp said.
'God given talent, he's got everything. He's got an incredible physique, he can run, he can dribble, he can shoot, he got 30 goals last year.
'I look at a player right now. I think he's an eight goals, seven in the Premier League, and one in the in the FA Cup.
'He's just looks like he's not enjoying his football. And for me, it's quite heartbreaking because he's got so much talent, I just want to see more.'
Dion Dublin agreed with Redknapp's assessment of Rashford's recent showings on the pitch and added that he hopes the England international can return to his best.
'I want to see him smile. You know, we know Marcus Rashford is possibly the best player they have in regards to natural talent.' He said.
'And he can do things when he wants to do things. I just want Marcus Rashford to be enjoying his football again.
'I don't know what's going on away from football with Marcus. But when I see him on the pitch, I don't see him smile enough. And I want to see him enjoying his football again.
'Because if I see that, then he'll be tearing it up. And he'll be scoring goals and it'll be the best on the left hand side in the world which he can be.'
In a game where they struggled to create many real chances of note, it would be Rashford's replacement who proved to be the real difference maker at the Gtech Community Stadium.
After spending several months on the sidelines dealing with a calf injury, summer signing Mason Mount made his Premier League return off the bench and had an immediate impact, netting against the run of play to give United the lead and open his account for the club.
United's jubilation would prove to be short-lived however, as Brentford produced an immediate response as Kristoffer Ajer finished off a great move from Ivan Toney to equalise.
Failure to hang on to the three points leaves Erik ten Hag's side eight points behind Tottenham and nine behind Aston Villa in the race for Champions League football.

it's the role of the midfield and forwards to create chances and for the defenders to defend there are tactics in place for that(counter attack) but they don't have the drive
Man U is playing really poorly these days. I don't think blaming a player is constructive. Its was Onana, Maguire, Ronaldo, Greenwood, Sancho & now Rashford. Has the team improved? 6th in EPL says no.

It's really painful to watch Rashford play these days. He lacks desire, no purpose or ambition. When you pass to him,he just stands and pass back, only wants to make an attempt when he gets a long ball behind the defense. I hope he can rediscover himself so that we see the Rashford we once know again.

Jamie Redknapp should leave Rashford alone and face your own problem. Is there no other player in the Premier League that is worse than him? Your Statement is a "racist comment". That is why all of you conspired with Gareth Southgate not to include him among the England players for Europe 2024.

if many are complaining about Marcus what of Scott, Bruno, mount, Anthony and even ETH as 90% contribution in Manchester United problem bcuz psychologically he's bias and too boring as a coach over many issues like sub, formation, consistency, injuries and selection generally about the bad ones for the good ones. imagine playing Scott and mainoo and still expect good results, mount and Bruno when Bruno is too arrogant to play along with is team while mount is out of form and Marcus and Anthony have nothing to offer bcuz both are out of form.
If I may ask, who do you want the coach to play when most of the players were having issues. Either injury or off-field problems. Ten Hag has been using and managing the only available players he has. According to you, if Rashford, Anthony, Mount is out of form how many players most especially winger do you think is available for the manager to use. Man United at the moment is just bad from the top (board), you can point finger at only the coach. No better squad depth because the club has not been running well for yrs now.

How can a Striker perform when all his team does is defend?

if he doesn't want to be talked about then he should leave the league to like Swansea o rd something because if you are at that level and not performing you will be spoken about. he should be at the peak of his career now and there is no drive in him look at his other mates he should be the best in that squad as it is

I think Rashford issues is not even coach or managers, look recently in England friendlies the guy can't demonstrate he is at the same level either with the likes of Foden, Gordon, and Watkins. He barely puts in efforts. So it seems he is not focusing to extend his career in football beyond 30 maybe he wants to hang up the boots by 30 he is not himself.
