Rennes set to complete €7M deal for Naples’ Leo Østigård

Stade Rennais are set to sign Naples’ centre-back Leo Østigård (24) on a €7M deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Rennes are set to end their searches for a new centre back. While Martin Pongracic was close to signing for the Brittany side a few weeks ago, Fiorentina managed to hijack the deal, forcing the Ligue 1 outfit to set their sights on another profile. Their searches led to Østigård, who have failed to climb Naples’ centre-back pecking order since his arrival from Brighton two years ago. Last season, the Norway international took part in 29 games across all competitions.

With Arthur Theate (24) still likely to depart this summer, Rennes have set the recruitment of a new centre-back as one of their priorities for this summer transfer window. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Brittany side and Naples have found an agreement over the Østigård‘s transfer on a €7M deal, which would allow the Serie A outfit to make a slight profit over the €5M deal concluded two years ago with Brighton. Østigård is set to pass his medical on Monday with Rennes.
