The latest postponement of the Juventus v Napoli fixture has sparked further controversy, as Roma argue it should not have been allowed and favours the Partenopei.
This Week 3 fixture has caused nothing but chaos since it was meant to be played on October 4, but called off because Napoli were banned from travelling due to COVID cases.
They were initially docked a point and given an automatic 3-0 defeat for not sticking to the COVID protocol, but won their third appeal.
That ordered the game to be played after all and it was arranged for Wednesday March 17.
However, on Friday the two clubs agreed by mutual consent to move it again to April 7.
This has now infuriated Roma, who think Napoli are given preferential treatment to prepare for their trip to the Stadio Olimpico next weekend well-rested.
It’s particularly irritating to them, as Roma are playing in the Europa League on Thursday in Ukraine with a visit to Shakhtar Donetsk.
Now Roma have written a formal letter to the Lega Serie A questioning the decision to change the Juventus-Napoli fixture less than a week from the planned kick-off.
“We ask for clarification for the motivation that is in clear sporting interest, because we currently see absolutely no adequate justification, other than implicitly favouring SSC Napoli’s fixture list when they were going to face this club on March 21.”
