Roma pull plug on plans for new stadium

Roma have focused their financial efforts on improving the team on the pitch, rather than relocating to a new one in the near future.

The club had drawn up plans for a move away from the Stadio Olimpico, with a new site at Tor Di Valle in the south east of the Italian capital.

"Roma's ownership wants to invest, to be competitive, in a winning team that can play in a new, modern stadium," a club statement read.

"The advice from the administration, who met [on Friday], after the studies of its financial advisors, has concluded that there are currently no conditions to confirm the interest in the use of the stadium at Tor di Valle, with it being impossible to carry out."

Dan Friedkin's group of American investors have owned Roma since taking a majority share of the club in 2020.
