There are reports Alessio Romagnoli will be out for at least a month, as Milan are forced to find new alternatives in defence.
The captain pulled out of international duty ahead of the Nations League clash with Portugal, as he was suffering from a muscular problem.
According to Sky Sport Italia, tests this morning showed there is a lesion and that means Romagnoli will be out for approximately four weeks.
It’s a devastating blow to a side already missing Lucas Biglia, Mateo Musacchio, Mattia Caldara and Giacomo Bonaventura for at least a month each.
Davide Calabria was also sent home early from Italy Under-21 duty with an ankle problem.
In today’s game against the Primavera youth team, Gennaro Gattuso tested out a 3-5-2 formation with Andrea Conti in wide midfield.
Another option should the 4-4-2 be confirmed is to bring back Franck Kessie into a central defensive role.
If he were to pick 23-year-old Stefan Simic, it’d be the defender’s Serie A debut in a Milan jersey.

Prepare to be fubar. I can't remember when any team in any top league was this devastated with injuries. Literally 4 of our first eleven are injured, and many others picked up some knocks here and there.

Our already leaky defence is gonna take a beating without a leader, December might be a rough month for us.

Stefan Simic will have to play at least Europa League. No pressure.

So pretty much until winter break, missing 9 games. Our forwards are going to have to be in the best of form if we're going to stick close to 4th. Honestly if we can stick to around 6 points from 4th going into the winter break, it will be amazing.

Please fire every single person at Milan in charge of player fitness, every season the whole team is plagued with injuries, don’t tell me that’s a coincidence

I'm not a Milan fan but this is beyond effed up. How is it possible for so many players to ground to a halt for medical reasons? Misfortune exists, but this is misfortune over nine thousand! As somebody said, maybe the medical team should be given a look...

Milan's injury issues would be getting truly incredible.

I don‘t think this is bad luck. Gattuso either destroys them in training or Milan‘s medical team is terrible
