As it stands, Milan risk losing Maignan at the end of the season with his deal due to expire.
However, Rossi insists the situation can be rescued if the two parties can start speaking to eachother again.
He told Tuttosport: "It's natural that everyone wants to see him at AC Milan for a long time to come, but it's not just up to the management: we need to understand what Maignan wants to do first.
"He'll be the one to decide his future."
Meanwhile, on Maignan's outstanding derby performance for victory over Inter Milan, Rossi enthused: "He was amazing in the derby and has been crucial since the start of the season. I'm not surprised to see him at this level again and so decisive.
"Mike makes the difference. Let's hope for AC Milan that he lasts a long time..."
