Roy Keane branded Manchester United 'shocking' and Gary Neville slammed their 'terrible' errors after Erik ten Hag's side were outclassed by arch rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
Luis Diaz and Mo Salah inspired a 3-0 win that heaped embarrassment on United and threatened to plunge Ten Hag back into crisis after just three games of the Premier League season.
'You can try and dress it up a little bit but United were shocking, really shocking,' United legend Keane told Sky Sports. 'Every time Liverpool went forward, they looked like they were going to score. You'd be worried for the manager. I would never stand here and say I expect a manager to lose his job, but the pressure must be building.'
Keane's former Old Trafford team-mate Neville believes Ten Hag is safe for now, but warned he does not have long to show United are top-four contenders.
'Erik ten Hag is going to have to get the club into a position challenging for the Champions League towards Christmas or he is going to be in trouble. He knows that. He can't be in eighth at the end of November and going into December,' said Neville, who blasted United for their mistakes in possession.
'Every manager who comes to this club has struggled. There's a feeling today of, 'Are we going to go through the same thing again?' But I think it's time for a bit of calm.'
However, Jamie Carragher claimed it is only a matter of time before Ten Hag is sacked in a brutal assessment of United and their decision to eventually stick with the Dutchman this summer.
'Ten Hag said we'll see where we are at the end of the season, but I'd be surprised if he's still in charge then,' said the former Liverpool defender.
'It looks a mess. The ownership didn't want to keep him. They were scurrying around Europe seeing if they could find someone better, but they didn't have the nerve to make the change. It's only delaying the inevitable.'
Ten Hag admitted United had made errors but said the result was more down to Liverpool's ruthlessness.
'We made mistakes,' the United manager said, 'and they were very clinical in finishing, and they did very well. All three goals are mistakes from us, individual errors โ the last one you can debate โ but all the others, Liverpool were brilliant on the turnover and how they finished was so good.
'I saw their xG (expected goals), it wasn't that high. They deserve it and we have to be humble. We have to take this and improve our game.'

It seems strange but each time Man Utd decides to give a player a new contract with a hefty pay rise, their form dips. I hope they have a structure where they only get paid if they are in the first team at games or if their performance on the field warrants a pay jump.

You are in pains of the 20 leagues and 19 leagues. The 1 different is still hurting you. Fight city not united. United is building a team and not ready for league title now. But remember united will not go 30years. Bet my words here

Casemiro had won more trophies than ETH so the blame should be put on ETH and not him according to ETH's persistent reminder that he had won 1 trophy per year in his 2 years in charge of Man Utd

"All three goals are mistakes from us, individual errors โ the last one you can debate โ but all the others, Liverpool were brilliant on the turnover and how they finished was so good" ETH there is nothing to debate about Mino was in position of the ball and he went to physically block the man that is stronger than him and lose position. what is there to debate?

man u should start planning for next season as usual, because there are more loses coming to bury their title ambitions and the problem they have is very clear to identify. honestly I don't want what is happening united, why not sack Ten Hag and bring in a manager who plays aggressive football, who doesn't like losing games.

The biggest mistake Jim Ratcliff n his team made is to keep n give ETH a new contract. Now it's time for him to b sacked. Pls don't wait bcos with this mgr v will die standing. Ratcliffe n his enous mgmt must act immediately. Appoint Rude van nistleroy as manager until v find someone good. Bring Di Zerbi n Greenwood from Marseille n I m sure we will see success.

I watch the game and this my opinino. 1. Man Utd player static and did make a run 2. Front player did not press enough. Zirkzee disappoint. 3. Midfiled not supporting attacker. When Man utd have the ball wide. No midfield in centre. 4. Kobie Mainoo IS THE PROBLEM & POSITINIONG GARBAGE!. Left Casemiro alone pressed by Liverpool midfield
