Samir Nasri has said that not featuring in a World Cup with France is “one of the biggest regrets” of his career.
The former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder featured for Les Bleus on 41 occasions, scoring five goals and registering five assists in that time. Whilst Nasri did feature in France’s Euros campaign in 2008, he never went to a World Cup. He feels hard done by having not gone to the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, despite admitting that he performed poorly in the play-off match.
“I was bad in the first leg of the play-off match in Ukraine, but based on the 2014 season with Manchester City, I should have gone to Brazil, every day of the week,” Nasri told Canal Plus.
He added, “I had already missed the World Cup in South Africa and then I missed the one in the home of football in Brazil; it is one of the biggest regrets of my career. I watched Les Bleus on the TV but with eternal regrets. I saw myself going to Brazil; I was full of confidence.”
Nasri even went so far as to say that in the wake of Didier Deschamps’ snub, he couldn’t even bring himself to support Les Bleus.
“I wasn’t a Bleus supporter at that time. When you are a player and you’re available for selection, whoever says he supports Les Bleus is a hypocrite,” added Nasri, who has expressed a desire to go into management, but who is currently a consultant on Canal Plus Foot.

Was he not the one that disrespected senior players like Thierry Henry before the Euros a couple years before then which led to France blacklisting him as a problematic player in the dressing room?... He runs his mouth too much. He once called Arsenal fans stupid for expressing dissatisfaction at his exit while telling Emmanuel Frimpong he could buy him on the pitch. He has made his bed.
