Sampdoria find 3 new COVID19 cases & one who was negative, returned to positive

Sampdoria announce that three new COVID-19 cases have been found in their squad, along with one player who had been negative and returned to being positive.

The entire squad and staff were subjected to swabs before a return to training, but these flagged up several more figures who contracted the virus.

“UC Sampdoria inform that, during the tests performed on the players, results emerged that showed three new positive cases for Coronavirus-COVID-19 and one return to positivity.

“Currently asymptomatic, they have been placed in quarantine and will be constantly monitored, as per protocol.”

It comes after Fiorentina announced six more cases – three players and three members of staff – while Torino found one player to have COVID-19.

Samp had been the hardest hit club in Italy by this pandemic, as there were so many positive cases that they stopped naming them publicly.

Manolo Gabbiadini was the second player in Serie A to test positive after Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

Others who followed include Albin Ekdal, Antonino La Gumina, Morten Thorsby and club medic Amedeo Baldari.

The fact they have not been into training for almost two months means these players appear to have contracted the virus while ostensibly under lockdown.

As for the relapse, this could be a false positive and will require further tests.
