Serie A have asked football’s lawmakers for the right to allow them to use five substitutes per match instead of three.
The move is backed by Italy’s top-flight clubs who want more choice, with teams already allowed to name 12 substitutes on the bench.
The five changes would be made over three stoppages, to reduce the number of breaks in play.
FIGC president Gabriele Gravina has sent the request to the International Football Association Board (IFAB).
Champions League and Europa League games permit a fourth substitute in extra-time and that will also be allowed at the 2020 European Championship.
Italian Serie C and Serie D sides are already permitted to use five substitutes, and if the proposition is accepted, Serie A will become the first major domestic league in Europe to permit more than three alterations being made in a game.

A very nice idea i think it will help young talented players on bench to play as that was or is their intention while come the club as a player.

it will make the game more tactical than individual.

I think it’s very good and every major league should do same so as to give play time to fringe players too

It will be nice as it will help give some players some play time. it will help in team rotation too and it will solve unplanned injury problems so I don’t think it will be a bad idea.

They can as well grant 11players substitute, as if that not what they have in mind before allowing them to name more than 18man squad for a single match
