Serie A players could have wages cut by as much as 30% due to coronavirus (CdS)

Serie A players could take a wage cut ranging from 20-30% to help their clubs in these difficult circumstances according to a report in today's print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

With football on hold for the foreseeable future due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, clubs are understandably concerned about making significant losses with them not receiving any gate receipts or television income.

In a way to mitigate these losses, the players could be asked to take a wage cut. The Lega Serie A and Italian football federation are in talks over the matter and could soon submit a proposal to the Italian players association.

The report from the Rome based newspaper uses the leagues highest earner Cristiano Ronaldo as an example. The multi-time world player of the year currently earns €31 million per year at Juventus and in the worst case scenario, he would be forced to give up some €9 million in wages.
