Viterbese Vice-President Luciano Camili has been banned from football for five years after assaulting Arezzo patron Giorgio La Cava.
La Cava had just saluted the travelling supporters in the stands ahead of Wednesday’s Serie C promotion playoff between his club and Viterbese when he was reportedly insulted by both home fans and stewards working at the stadium.
As he walked into the tunnel, someone punched the Arezzo President in the back of the head, causing him to briefly lose consciousness.
That someone has since been identified as Luciano Camilli, son of Viterbese owner Piero, who has also been fined €30,000.
According to the FIGC, Camilli pushed La Cava from behind without provocation, kicked his legs and punched him in the head.
La Cava would have then fell to the ground and required medical attention, before being taken to hospital in an ambulance.
Arezzo won the game 2-0, having already won the first leg 3-0 at home.
They qualify for the second round of the playoffs along with Catania, Imolese, Triestina, Feralpisalo, Trapani, Piacenza and Pisa.
