Strangest crossover: Ozil aims savage dig at Leonardo DiCaprio over Arsenal

Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil aimed a brutal dig over a comment made about his old club - to Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio.

The star of Titanic, The Wolf of Wall Street and Don't Look Up, DiCaprio is one of the most successful actors of the modern era, with his films grossing over $7.5 billion at the box office.

The 49-year-old has plenty of interests outside of acting, including art, cycling and even beekeeping.

Apparently, though, those interests do not spread to football.

Or at least that's according to X (Twitter) account Film Updates, who claim DiCaprio responded when asked whether he liked football: "What's Arsenal?"

The actor has been spotted at football matches before, having been seen attending the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Maybe his interest in the sport doesn't extend beyond international football...

Anyway, Ozil picked up on DiCaprio's quote, and took to social media to aim a brutal dig at the Hollywood star.

He wrote: "Arsenal Football Club is older than 25 years... so why should he know?"

The joke references DiCaprio happening to break up with three of his partners when they were at the age of 25 - something which naturally gathered steam on social media a number of years ago.

While Ozil may have left Arsenal in somewhat disappointing circumstances - he wasn't selected for a single league game for the club during the final five months of his time there - he still clearly holds a deep personal affinity for the Gunners.
