The four Manchester United players who have lifted the World Cup

History is set to be made on Sunday, and not just at international level, with Manchester United guaranteed to have a World Cup winner amongst their ranks.

United teammates Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane will be facing off when Argentina face France in today's showpiece final, with a place in the history books at stake.

French international Varane already has one winner's medal to his name after lifting the trophy as a Real Madrid player four years ago, while Argentine Martinez could end a stratospheric year in the best possible way.

What is certain is that whoever wins this weekend will return to United with their own unique piece of history, becoming just the fifth player in history to win the World Cup while playing for the club.

Three of those came in 1966, when United trio Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles and John Connelly helped England win the trophy for the only time in their history.

The only other United player to lift the trophy during his time at the club was Paul Pogba four years ago, with the former midfielder netting a goal in their 4-2 final victory against Croatia.

No matter what happens this weekend, that number will rise to five, though there are another eight former United players who have tasted World Cup success at a different stage of their careers.
