Umtiti's message to Barca fans after being whistled at the Joan Gamper Trophy

Samuel Umtiti had a night to forget on Sunday, despite the Frenchman playing for Barcelona in their win over Juventus in the Joan Gamper Trophy.

The defender was whistled by supporters at the Estadi Johan Cruyff during the presentation of the players and during the match itself.

Leaving the field, Umtiti was understandably hurt. Having played the second half, he took to Instagram shortly after the final whistle to post a message to the supporters that got on his back.

"Sometimes it's better to say nothing and let silence take care of things," Umtiti posted, in French.

Umtiti wasn't alone in being whistled. His compatriot Antoine Griezmann was also on the receiving end of a hostile reception, as were Miralem Pjanic and Philippe Coutinho.

Later on, Gerard Pique spoke out in defence of his teammates.

"I understand that people want to express themselves, but we all have to pull together," Pique said.

"We have to help the team. We're in a new era and now we need the fans more than ever.

"Whistles don't help, no matter how annoyed people are."

Umtiti left the pitch prematurely on the night and doesn't feature in the team photo taken to celebrate the win. Coutinho was also absent from the photo.
