Union Berlin have qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history following a 1-0 win at home to Werder Bremen on the final day of the Bundesliga season.
Rani Khedira's goal in the 81st minute ensured that Union Berlin secured a top four finish at the expense of Freiburg.
Union Berlin's achievement is made all the more remarkable by the fact that they were competing in the second tier of German football as recently as the 2018-19 season.
This season Union Berlin were involved in the Europa League and reached the round of 16, where they lost 6-3 on aggregate to Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise.
They were also involved in the group stages of the Europa Conference League last season.
Union Berlin will now be looking forward to testing themselves against Europe's elite.
They are set to be placed in pot four for the group stage draw which means that they could be set for some very difficult tests.
However, they managed to get draws against Bayern Munich and Ajax this season so have some experience of being able to perform well against big teams.
Although they lost against Hoffenheim in their previous game, prior to that Union Berlin managed to overcome Freiburg.
