Cruz Azul could be in danger of missing out on River Plate’s Miguel Borja. Multiple reports suggest the deal is in jeopardy, with the club’s front office and the striker’s camp yet to reach an agreement for him to sign with La Máquina.
The sticking point? Both sides remain divided over salary and performance bonuses Borja would receive at La Noria.
Varying reports on future of Borja deal
Adrián Esparza of TUDN reports that Borja is back in Colombia and will stay there for now. Similarly, ESPN’s César Caballero confirms the same, noting that although talks have hit a snag, Cruz Azul remains confident they can get the deal done.
On the other hand, Azteca Deportes’ Mauricio Gutiérrez offers a different take, claiming the transfer has in fact collapsed altogether.
When does the window slam shut?
Despite the Clausura 2026 already underway, Cruz Azul still has time to finalize Borja’s signing or pivot to another target. The transfer window in Mexican soccer closes on Monday, February 9, giving the front office roughly a month to complete the roster.
