CRYSTAL PALACE asked for Joe Gomez as part of the deal for Marc Guehi before the move ultimately collapsed.
Guehi, 25, has been left fuming behind the scenes after his deadline day transfer to Liverpool fell through at the last minute.
SunSport understands that Guehi had the full backing of manager Oliver Glasner and chairman Steve Parish, who gave him the green light to proceed with his medical. Everything was set for a move to Liverpool.
Contrary to reports suggesting the Reds left their bid late, they first held a meeting with Palace on August 9.
They made their interest in Guehi clear and an official offer was submitted on August 10, following approval from Liverpool’s U.S.-based owners, SunSport can exclusively reveal.
However, Palace then let the matter rest as the transfer window neared its end.
Their next move was to demand either a £50million fee or for Joe Gomez to be included in the deal for Guehi.
Liverpool made it clear that Gomez, who still has two years left on his contract, would only be available in a separate deal, not as part of a package for Guehi, especially considering Guehi only has one year left on his current contract.
Both Liverpool and Guehi believed there was ample time for Palace to find a replacement, particularly since the defender had already informed the club of his desire not to leave on a free transfer, urging them to cash in while they could.
On the eve of deadline day, he had the blessing of all parties involved to go ahead and seal what would have been a dream move.
The England defender first heard of complications with the deal two hours into his medical but he went on to complete it at around 6:00 p.m on deadline day.
Sources say he personally could not get hold of Steve Parish, nor manager Oliver Glasner, to explain why the deal was being blocked.
He then requested a meeting with his representatives, during which Parish informed him that the club could not proceed with the transfer as they had failed to secure a suitable replacement.
While Guehi would have been happy to remain at Palace, a part of him now feels he has been misled, believing the club always knew they would not sanction the move, but led him to believe otherwise.

No, what kind of betrayal? You either sell or hold him to his contract. Liverpool are very stubborn and wicked, they want to weaken their opponents by taking their best players and leaving them with nothin in return just like Newcastle after bidding Isak they went buy Eketike their replacement for Isak. But for Crystal Palace they drag them to last minute and refuse to release Gomes who is surplus. How would Palace end if they sell Guehi and ended up with nothin. Tell your to be fair to other clubs.
It is ok to sell to Eze to Arsenal, but LFC is wicked to want to buy Guehi. Who hypocritical can you be.

If this was LFC who had done that, every single media house, newspapers, and pundits would have taken LFC to task for such an act. Look at their behavior towards Isak all because he wants a transfer to LFC. Geykores did the samething at Sporting and even worse to get his move to Arsenal, and they all shut up. There are a bunch of hypocrites out there who are haters when it comes to LFC.

We cannot blame Liverpool for this . All the top clubs will buy best players from the mid table teams . Example FC Bayern , PSG .
u want a player but couldn't make a tangible amount but Liverpool is a loser

Does Palace know Guehi put papers for transfer. Did Gomez did that. LFC will never put Gomez on transfer list at any cost because of his versatility. This manager has the cheek to ask for swap deal. LFC will get Guehi for free anyway.

Hmm,....A lot of things go on behind the scene during transfers that we fans may not know until it's bygone, Because the news that broke out after this deal fell through was that "Glasner (palace coach) threatened to resign if guehi leaves", Now this source is claiming he backed the move too,.

Crystal palace are criminal in disguise so they want Liverpool to pay 50m for a players that have just one year left of his contract , so if Liverpool is going to pay 35m liverpool will give them Gomez what type of business is that ?

well parish, you probably think you have the same leverage like Newcastle but it's even a more lose lose situation for your club, you only have months remaining and wont be winning anything this season, you sold eze,a player that has more years on his contract while intentionally slow boat guehi acting like you were trying to get replacement while you never intended to let the player leave, well do you see how calm guehi is??because he told yall infront your face, that either you sell me or im leaving next year for free.😁😁😁😁😁so its a win win for him,he'll get the 10/15 mil signing on bonus and you'll get nothing, zilch, zero, nada..so play all the games you want
