Wrexham look set to complete the signing of an ex-Premier League striker for £2million this week, which could end their reported interest in Leicester legend Jamie Vardy

Wrexham have completed the signing of Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore in a deal worth £2million, according to reports. The Wales international's anticipated arrival at the Racecourse Ground is expected to be announced imminently after he is understood to have undergone a medical at the weekend.

As per talkSPORT, the move has been agreed by all parties and will see the 32-year-old become Wrexham's eighth summer recruit. Moore scored six goals in 30 appearances for the Blades in the second tier last season as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League after losing to Sunderland in the play-off final.

The Red Dragons, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have been busy in the transfer market as they prepare for life in the Championship. The Welsh club were heavily linked with an ambitious attempt to bring in Leicester legend Jamie Vardy earlier in the transfer window.

However, the acquisition of Moore is likely to signal the end of manager Phil Parkinson's pursuit of reinforcements up front and any rumours of Vardy joining the club.

Moore's arrival will bring the number of senior strikers on Wrexham's books to eight. Parkinson's attacking options are vast enough that they have already sent out two forwards on loan, with club talisman Paul Mullin joining Wigan and Jake Bickerstaff heading to Cheltenham.

Meanwhile, it's also been claimed that Ollie Palmer could be headed for the exit door. Vardy's future remains up in the air after leaving the Foxes at the end of last season, while Wrexham's transfer business continues at pace.

Premier League talent Pedro Lima could be the next player to join on loan from Wolves. The Midlands side beat Chelsea to the signature of the 19-year-old Brazilian from Sport Recife last summer, but the right wing-back has so far struggled for regular minutes.

Wrexham are now said to be set to offer Lima a chance as they aim to establish themselves in the Championship. The Red Dragons have been tipped in some quarters for another promotion push given their significant outlay this summer.

But Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes a mid-table finish is more likely and would be a respectable showing.

Speaking to Casino.co.uk, the former West Brom striker said: "They've recruited some likeable looking players on paper. Phil Parkinson, he likes experience, there's no doubt about that, but he's added a sprinkling of younger players as well.

"When I look at that squad, it looks like a sort of a bottom half Championship squad on paper. I would say anywhere between 10th to 15th would be good for Wrexham in terms of consolidating themselves in the Championship. That run of promotions has to come to an end at some point, and I think this will be the season that it does.

"I do think the Championship is very, very strong, but consolidation for Wrexham this season would be ideal, and it seems to me the noises from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and people within Wrexham, is that they're not getting carried away."

He added: "It seems to me that they don't expect to be challenging at the very, very top of the Championship. I might be wrong, but that's the impression that I'm getting. Personally, I think that's about right, where they place their ambition on consolidation."
