Liverpool ended up missing out on a deadline day deal for Marc Guehi after Crystal Palace decided to pull the plug on a transfer at the eleventh hour in a dramatic twist
Liverpool are expected to revisit their interest in Marc Guehi when the transfer window reopens after Crystal Palace pulled the plug on a deadline day move for the England star.
Guehi, 25, is in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and has been heavily linked with the Premier League champions in recent months. It emerged over the weekend that the clubs were once again in contact over a deal for the central defender and a £35million fee was agreed on deadline day.
Unfortunately, late drama ensued with Palace encountering difficulties in their bid to sign defensive reinforcements; Julio Igor decided to pull out of a loan move in order to pursue a switch to West Ham, leaving Jaydee Canvot as their only defensive incoming. Palace subsequently decided against sanctioning Guehi's exit - even though he had undertaken part of his medical.
While Guehi will not be running out at Anfield anytime soon, The Mail have confirmed that he remains a player of interest to Liverpool, who are likely to try and sign him again in January or next summer, when Guehi would be a free agent.
The Reds fared better in their pursuit of Alexander Isak, who completed a British record £125m move to Anfield late on deadline day. But he was not joined by Guehi, even though a dealsheet giving both clubs until 9pm to finalise a deal was requested.
Oliver Glasner, the Eagles head coach, has made no secret of his desire to keep Guehi at the club beyond the transfer window. He doubled down on that stance following the exit of Eberechi Eze, who joined Arsenal in a £67.5million deal last week. Speaking after Guehi scored in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, Glasner said: “We have to (keep Guehi) if we want to play a successful season… we need Marc.
“It is not possible within one day to find a replacement who can play immediately in the Premier League. When you see our defensive set-up, this is our foundation, everybody knows exactly what he has to do, everybody can rely on each other. Marc isn’t a small part in this, he’s our captain.
“We have to keep him. I told this to the chairman. It’s not for me.”

Something wrong with LIV priorities: Guehi had to be first, he needed much more than Isak

As for we Liverpool, Gomez didn't go to AC Milan, so we are safe, but I'm personally feeling bad for the player. I think that's his chance and dream move now. I don't think Liverpool will still follow him. very painful after passing his medicals, and then you blocked paa. it's unfortunate for the guy.

Coach Glasner does not know what it takes for a middle club to run a team in EPL, if he does he wouldn't have intimidated the owner to change his mind at the last minute on Guehi, I pity him if he doesn't do well

Liverpool did contribute to the collapse of this deal, Palace wanted Joe Gomez on loan until the end of the season, Slot rejected it, Igor deal would not have been mentioned even.

My question is that if Guehi decided not to go back to Crystal palace because he's already at Liverpool for medical
The Papers were not signed yet, so he will not be bound to Liverpool, remember it all happened within a short period to the end of the transfer window

Yet still people can’t understand why Isaac did what he did. When a club wants to get rid of a player they have no say on where they are going. But if a player wants to leave oh it’s blasphemy. Crystal Palace knew long ago that he wanted to leave but did nothing to secure another player. And because of that the player has to suffer. I’m sure he told all his palace teammates fear well to then have to come back. Not fair

Cristal palace are a total disappointment. after agreeing to sale us their player they then changed their mind at last. we shall take their player for free next summer
They are not any disappointment. They have to right to defend their season. If your club was really interested in him why wait until 24hrs to a transfer deadline to launch a serious bid? So you expected to sell their captain without any serious replacement for him? I have told you guys to remove emotions from logical issues to no avail.
