Liverpool transfer news: Reds to rival MU for star, Slot makes Arnold admission

Liverpool are gearing up for a potentially tricky away day against Tottenham on Sunday in the Premier League, but they also have one eye on the January transfer window.

The Reds are sitting pretty at the top of Premier League, although the gap has narrowed of late following their 2-2 draw against Fulham last weekend and the postponement of the Merseyside Derby before that. Arne Slot’s side hold a two-point lead, with a game in-hand, over second-placed Chelsea, and are also enjoying themselves in other competitions.

A 2-1 win over Southampton on Wednesday took Liverpool into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, while Slot has also managed a perfect record in the Champions League. But, as ever, there are improvements to be made and January provides an opportunity for Liverpool to bring in new players.

The rumour mill is churning and it seems as though Liverpool could indeed be in the market for additions. Here Mirror Football takes a look at the latest news and rumours.

Liverpool saw first-hand just how effective Antonee Robinson can be last weekend when Fulham took away a point from Anfield. The Fulham left-back was the stand-out player for the visitors and he’s been attracting plenty of attention, with Liverpool understood to be among those keeping an eye on the USA international.

Robinson has now admitted that, although he’s happy playing for Marco Silva’s side, he would be up for a move if a big-money bid came in.

He told Marca : “I’m very happy here. The fact that there is interest from other teams is great. Obviously, it all comes down to whether someone wants me enough to pay what Fulham would ask. So, if the club sees it as a good idea, I would leave.”

Alphonso Davies looks set to leave Bayern Munich in the summer, with his contract expiring and eyes being made at other clubs. Real Madrid have long been considered the most likely destination for the rapid full-back, but the market is open.

Manchester United are another club in need of a left-back, while Liverpool could be tempted to upgrade on Andy Robertson following his recent struggles. Sky Sports Germany reporter Christian Falk reports that Davies’ agent is shopping his client around and Liverpool could meet him to discuss the possibility of a move in 2025.

Agent Nick Huoseh will go on a tour of England in the New Year and interest from other clubs is helpful, even if Real and United are more concrete options.

Arne Slot has praised Trent Alexander-Arnold 's ambition after the Liverpool star said he 'wants to build a legacy' before retiring.

"I like this in a player!” Slot said. “Everyone must have it at this level and if you don't have that you don't play at this level. But they have to put the team first and they all do it, including Trent. All the top players have this; they want to be special and be the best, to stay fit.

“The players have a great life but they have to put a lot of work in to be at their best every three days and that is the mentality of a top player. That is what you need to be the best player."
