Manchester United are unlikely to make an offer for former Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente despite reports in Italy suggesting a deal is close.
Napoli and Lazio have also been linked for the free agent Spain international.
The Red Devils did not bring in a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who moved to Inter Milan for £73million, before the Premier League transfer deadline.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried to sign Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic but both deals fell through.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, United moved on to sign Llorente and agreed a two-year-deal for the 34-year-old.
Sportsmail understands, however, that this is not the case and United do not plan to make an offer any time soon.

I think Manchester United are about 5 years late to the Fernando Llorente party, he’s losing a lot of the attributes that made him so good. They need another forward but this should have been sorted in the window, not by approaching the only available free agent
